Divine Wisdom: The passage, “Those who spend their wealth by night and day, by stealth and openly, verily their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve” QN2:274, reminds those who, because they have more than enough to eat and even throw away, tend to think giving to the needy is all about grandstanding and making themselves look good that, more than ever, we are living at a time when something as simple as not having enough food to eat or paying minimal medical bill, is stealing so many precious lives.
In other words, rather than mere opportunities for grandstanding, our giving should get its motivation from thankfulness for that which the Almighty has so graciously blessed us with. So with the understanding that “Whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah ” QN2:110, we should train ourselves to give freely.
So let the knowledge that:
1) Giving awakens our souls and triggers genuine concern for the well-being of others.
2) Giving from what we are given from The Provider and Owner of everything not only releases us from the disease of want but also reminds us that everything belongs to Allah (swt) and must be used for the well-being of all of humanity; and
3) Random acts of giving is the key to healthier and more purposeful living;
Teach you before stepping out each morning, to remember the words of the Prophet (s.a.w) “Allah, the Exalted, says, ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’” So Beloved, How will you give today? Ask to be blessed with the spirit of giving!
Pray with me: O Allah! Please enrich me with the spirit of giving and multiply Your blessings and favour upon me and my household, by Your mercy.
