Divine Wisdom: The passage, “Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord….restrain anger, and pardon all men;- for Allah loves those who do good” Surah Aal-I-Imraan – QN3:133-134, reminds us that we are wired to continue to work on our weaknesses and build on our strengths; Hot temper and anger are two horrible traits which should be avoided in order not to wreck more havoc on other people’s weaknesses and ruin our relationships and especially with our family members. So those who live as if family means nothing to them, especially when hurt, to learn to control their temper because family is worth it. After all, no one else loves us regardless of what we do and there is really nowhere we can go to find the comfort and strength that comes from such a unique support system.

In other words, anger in actual fact is a weakness, so we should never get so angry that we sin or go to bed angry and give the devil a chance to wreak havoc in our lives and homes.

So let the knowledge that:
1) Satan would like nothing better than to gain entry to our homes and turn them upside down because, every time we fly into a rage, we lose ground to him;
2) It is impossible to have a long-term, loving relationship without learning to accept human weaknesses; and
3) The key to managing anger lies in finding healthy ways to express it so that it does not end up hurting more than helping;
Teach you, rather than dwelling on each other’s shortcomings, this weekend, reach out to family members in a loving and forgiving manner and then focus on your collective strengths as a family!

Pray with me: O Allah, I ask You to make me fear You in secret and in public, and I ask You to make me speak the truth calmly in times of contentment and of anger, so people can hear me clearly and understand me. I pray never to incur Your wrath by losing the ties of kinship, but help me to make it stronger by Your mercy, Amin.
